Tortuga was originally an offshore supply vessel, possibly operating as a freighter under the name Champion or Francia Express. Her real claim to fame, however, was as a prop in the 90s movie Fair Game” starring Cindy Crawford and William Baldwin. The vessel was blown up using 40 pounds of dynamite in the dramatic climax of the movie that saw the two lead actors jump off the ship as it exploded. The wreck settled to the sandy seafloor, eventually resting upright and relatively intact. The artificial reef now supports a variety of marine life, including barracuda and a host of snapper species, including mahogany and grey snapper.
