Behavior:

These relatively small, reddish-gold-colored snapper are often confused with the larger red snapper. Both species live in deep water and feed on fish, squid, shrimp, crabs, worms, and other bottom-dwelling invertebrates.

Predators:

Sharks, grouper, eels and barracuda.

The main differences between vermilion snapper and red snapper are that former have forked tails and are generally smaller, both in mouth size and overall body size than the latter.
