Toadfish
Maximum Size:
12–15 in (30–38 cm)
Longevity:
8 to 12 years.
Typical depth:
3–160 ft (1–49 m)
Behavior:
Multiple species of toadfish are found in the Gulf of Mexico and around the coast of the United States. Individual species can be difficult to differentiate based on their appearance. Some, such as the gulf toadfish, are typically found in shallower water and on sandy or rubble bottoms, while others are found at greater depths. They are benthic ambush predators, feeding on a range of marine organisms including mollusks, crustaceans and other fish species.
Predators:
Dolphins, barracuda, snapper and octopus.
