Behavior:

Sharptail eels have a habit of burying themselves in the sand near rocky and coral reefs in shallow, clear water. They have been known to actively swim along below the surface of the sand. They mostly feed on crabs and other crustaceans, as well as small fish.

Predators:

Rays, snapper, grouper and larger eels.

Visitors to the Caribbean often misidentify sharptail eels as sea snakes, which are only found in the Indo-West Pacific and not in the Atlantic.
