Behavior:
These relatively small, bottom-feeding snapper hunt crustaceans, mollusks, and smaller fish during the night. They are a popular species with fishers, who often use hook and line to catch them. Lane snapper form large schools during spawning season, which usually takes place between May and August. They are found from North Carolina to southern Brazil.
Predators:
Sharks, grouper, eels and barracuda.
Did you know?
The species name synagris, is an alternate name for a fish called the common dentex, found in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. When the lane snapper was first discovered, it was given this name because it was similar in appearance to the common dentex.
