Behavior:
King mackerel are a popular sportfish found throughout the Western Atlantic and the Caribbean. They spend most of their time in open water but are often found above coral reefs and wrecks. They are usually solitary, and typically seen by divers during safety stops as they can become curious and draw close.
Predators:
Pelagic sharks and dolphins.
Did you know?
King mackerel are similar in appearance to Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus maculatus) and Cero mackerel (Scomberomorus regalis). Worldwide, there are around 20 members of this genus, which are all similar in appearance.
