Behavior:
Glasseye snapper are secretive fish, hiding alone or in small groups in holes, caves and crevices during the day. At night, they exit their shelters to feed on octopuses, pelagic shrimp, crabs, small fish and polychaete worms. They sometimes form larger schools at dusk.
Predators:
Sharks, tuna, grouper and mahi mahi.

The glasseye snapper is not a snapper at all, but rather a species in the bigeye fish family. The scientific name of this family – Prisacanthidae – comes from the serrated spine these species have on each opercula (gill cover).
