Behavior:

Blackbar soldierfish are nocturnal, often hiding in caves and crevices during the day. They congregate around coral and rocky reefs at night to feed on plankton and invertebrates. They most commonly occur at depths of less than 100 feet (33 meters), but can also be found at extreme depths.

Predators:

Snapper, grouper, jacks and trumpetfish.

Did you know?

Blackbar soldierfish are occasionally observed swimming upside down. It is unclear what purpose this behavior serves.
