Behavior:

Atlantic spadefish are often found in schools of up to 500 individuals, swimming above reefs and shipwrecks. They feed during the day on plankton and benthic invertebrates, such as worms, crustaceans and mollusks. To hide from predators, juveniles often drift on their sides to mimic debris.

Predators:

Grouper and sharks.

Did you know?

Juvenile Atlantic spadefish are almost completely black in color and are often found drifting on their sides, mimicking floating debris in the water in order to avoid predation.
