Reef Smart and Clear Currents, a non-profit dedicated to ocean conservation and public education, have formed a new collaborative initiative to expand marine literacy worldwide. The companies have joined forces to create an ongoing series of free interactive eLearning modules designed to educate divers, snorkelers, students, and ocean enthusiasts on critical environmental topics.
The launch marks the debut of the first three courses in what will be a growing library of digital learning modules, based largely on information contained in Reef Smart’s Beneath the Blue Planet book by Dr. Alex Brylske. Future courses will roll out over the coming months, covering essential ocean topics such as coral reef preservation, marine mammals, coastal ecosystems, and ocean conservation practices.
All Educational programming in the series is offered 100% free of charge, with no subscriptions or paywalls, making high-quality environmental education accessible to a global audience of all ages. Reef Smart has additionally created in-water components of each course, which are being integrated into partner dive centers (visit Reef Smart Education to learn more).

The first three courses are available now:
⭐ The Benthos provides insight into the bottom-dwelling species that are vital to coral reef health, including the corals themselves.
⭐ The Fish Community introduces the concept of how fish morphology drives their behavior and role in the coral reef ecosystem.
⭐ The Reef At Night raises awareness of the unique behaviors and phenomena that are observed as the reef community transitions from day to night, including biofluorescence.
