Behavior:
The crocodilefish is a bottom-swelling Indo-West Pacific fish species that has a head similar to that of a small crocodile, hence the name. The species is also known as De Beaufort’s flathead or the giant flathead. Known for its incredible camouflage, which even involves frilly skin projections that cover the eyes known as eye lappets, the crocodilefish lies motionless on the seabed waiting for prey to come within striking distance so they can be ambushed. Crocodilefish are entirely black when young and develop a mottled coloration as they mature.
Predators:
Sharks
