Behavior:
The giant moray eel is found throughout the Indo-West Pacific region, from the eastern coast of Africa and the Red Sea to the Hawaiian Islands and north to Japan. It is generally brownish in color with dark spots. Juveniles may appear more tan in color. The giant moray is a carnivorous and nocturnal hunter that feeds mainly on crustaceans and reef fish.

Giant morays are known to engage in cooperative hunting with coral grouper (Plectropomus pessuliferus). In this mutualistic relationship, both species benefit by hunting side by side and consuming the prey that are scared out of hiding. The moray generally eats the benthic creatures, and the grouper eats those above the reef.
